ABOUT

Bloghammer is my dedication for the tabletop miniature games Warhammer 40,000 [40K] and Warhammer Fantasy Battles [WFB] released by Games Workshop.  Though I’ve only picked up the hobby as of recent (in the past five years or so), I’ve found myself drawn to the endless challenge and fun the game had offered.

Theoryhammer is a term came about originally regarding a type of gamers who tend to sit around a table talking about how the game should be played, or how it could be played had they the time and dedication to actually make their army.   I can’t guarantee that I myself wouldn’t talk about theories and what ifs from time to time, but I would like to focus my discussion based on my personal findings via playing the game.

Before I go rumbling on, how about I share a bit about myself – the main contributor of this blog and mastermind behind the bloghammer.

My background in gaming started when I was 5, when I first picked up a Go book from my grandpa’s bookshelf and started playing with the stones.  Though I had no luck excelling in Go, playing with them had taught me positioning of gaming pieces and looking at a game from a macro view rather a micro view as I found out later.  I picked up Chess two years when I came to the states and had somewhat a lucky break with it.  I even played it semi-professionally for about two years, but had to quit doing so after I found out that it did not merit a steady income.  I then went through 15 years of pilgrimage of various gaming and competitions – board games, CCGs, pokers, weight training, sharpshooting, RTS, etc., trying to find one past time that can keep my competitive spirit and not burning it out in a year or two.

That was when I found Warhammer, I played it a bit when I was just a teen and had a horrid experience with it.  Yet when I played it about 5 years ago I found myself unable to stop.  Before I know it, I bought a gaming shop (Fire and Sword Game Center) and am hosting private indy GT (TSHFT) for the local area 4 times a year!

If you are wondering how much time I spent gaming, I can safely say that I get in 20~30 hrs gaming each week (that’s about 6 to 8 games a week of Warhammer) and another 20 or so modeling and painting.  So I might start the hobby a bit later than some of my peers, playing the game rigorously in the past years had made me realize maybe I do have a knack in this hobby.  At the least, they gave me some confidence to start this blog to share my findings (be them painful experiments or momentary triumph) with the rest of you.

Without further adieu, I bid you good reading and good luck in your games.

Cheers,

Zen
